NYC :: Street Fighter

As a child I harbored dreams of becoming a Ninja.

I even had a couple of throwing stars that I kept hidden in my closet, waiting for the day I would join my Ninja brethren on some great mission.

But the path of life is meandering, and somewhere along the way I gave up on those dreams.

Indeed I had nearly forgotten them altogether until I met this talented human being, and martial artist, PaiSen. A big thanks to Pai and Patrick O'brien (my favorite producer) for indulging my innner child and making this shoot so much fun!

OWS :: NYC

A few moments from my wanderings through Zuccotti on a quiet evening last month...

2011 :: A Phone's Life

By all outward appearances, you would think my phone has the worst life imaginable. Its brothers before it have been lost in Japanese cedar forests and on village streets, and this particular fellow has been dropped from on high, doused in salt water and wine, trampled upon, and neglected for weeks on end. However, these photos are little slices of the life my phone has lived over the course of the past year, and while it has certainly missed out on a lot, and got knocked around a fair bit, it has still been managing to have a pretty grand time...

Rockaway :: Winter Surfing in New York City

When I think of all the tropical surf meccas I've traveled to over the past couple years it is painfully funny. Why I didn't learn to surf then I don't know. But in any case, here I am... December, clad in half inch thick neopreme, booties gloves, and a hood - learning to surf in New York City of all places. And, yet for some reason I'm loving it! I took my freedom to be in the out of doors pretty much for granted for the last 24 years. Now that I'm in the city, even the small victory of escaping to the murky waters of Rockaway somehow serves to clean my mind from the bustle of the city...

Utah :: Desert Sky and Dirt Bag Dreams

Over the last couple years I've been fortunate to reconnect with some old friends and make some pretty darn cool new ones as I've jumped/fallen/scrambled into the world of rock climbing. Along the way I've also picked up on the strange and varied vernacular of the climbing culture. "Crux", "splitter", "epicing", "bomber", "bootie", "gobi" "redpoint" and a myriad of other seemingly crude and nonsensical terms have entered my vocabulary, creeping insidiously into a deeper part of my psyche and awakening in me what can probably best be termed "dirt bag" dreams.

While "dirt bagging"...

Newport Folk Festival

Geting to work with my friends at SOPA productions (Ryan, Adam and Colleeen) on the 2011 Newport Folk Festival was one of the best musical experiences of my life.

Nestled between the looming stone walls of the old fort and the cooling waters of the Newport Harbor, the festival lives and breathes its music and heritage in a way that is really unique. The presence of folk legends (like 92 year old Pete Seger), the intimate space which the festival inhabits, and perhaps something of the nostaligic feel of the festival all contribute to foster an environment of creativity, colaboration...

Alpine-a-palooza :: Glacier Gorge

Good times hunkering down with old and new friends for a week of climbing, bivying, back country bacon cook offs, alpine scrable, boulder garden exploration, lightning storms and photo shoots galore.

Check out more awesome photos from Garrett Grove.

You can't cage the elephant

One of my favorite bands of all time to photograph.

In such, they merit their very own post from Coachella.

Put on "Ain't no rest for the wicked", kick back and enjoy
